AQUACULTURE AMERICA 2024 returns to one of the favorite tourist spots in the world for the only major national aquaculture conference and exposition held in the U.S. The U.S. Aquaculture Society (formerly U.S. Chapter of WAS) joins with National Aquaculture Association and the Aquaculture Suppliers Association to produce the annual Aquaculture America meetings. These sponsors are joined by the annual meetings of Aquacultural Engineering Society, US Trout Farmers Association and many more associations to make Aquaculture America 2024 the one meeting in the U.S. that you don’t want to miss

AQUACULTURE AMERICA 2024 will have the largest aquaculture trade show in the Western Hemisphere and one of the largest anywhere in the world with nearly 200 booths! BEST ABSTRACT/ TRAVEL AWARDS

The USAS Best Abstract/Travel Award helps support conference travel expenses for deserving USAS student members making a presentation at the USAS annual conference. Student Abstracts are judged on the following criteria: Accuracy and conciseness of title, format, organization, innovativeness of the study, scientific value, broad interest in the aquaculture community, and the ability to be understood by those not in the same specific field. Unless specifically noted, you must be a current USAS student member when you submit an abstract to be eligible for these awards. USAS Best Abstract Awards:

These three winners will be awarded:

  • A check for the amount of $600 registration reimbursement ($270 value)

  • A certificate of recognition.

All abstracts must be submitted following the USAS/WAS submission details and deadline of December 15, 2023.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT AWARDS

USAS Best Abstract/Travel awardees who give a short 5-minute (8-slide) version of the students’ 15-minute oral presentation to a wider audience during the conference usually at the plenary session) are eligible for the Spotlight Award. The presentations are evaluated on scientific value, scope, clarity, and conciseness, and the abstract and title.

Winners will be awarded:

  • First Place - $500

  • Second Place - $200

  • Third Place - $200

SOY AQUACULTURE ALLIANCE, GEORGE MARTIN MEMORIAL AWARD

This award supports conference travel expenses for a deserving USAS student member presenting a paper related to innovation in aquaculture at the conference.

Requirements: To be eligible for this award student must be a current USAS student member when an abstract is submitted. A completed application must be sent to the VP (Gulnihal Ozbay at gozbay@desu.edu) by Friday, December 15, 2023. Recipient MUST attend the Aquaculture America 2024 Student Reception in order to receive the award. Students will be judged based on their essays and the research reflected in their abstracts. Students with innovative technology or nutrition-oriented projects are strongly urged to apply.

The winner will be awarded:

  • a check for the amount of $1,000

  • registration reimbursement ($270 value)

  • a certificate of recognition

AQUATIC EQUIPMENT AND DESIGN, INC. TRAVEL AWARD

This award supports conference travel expenses for a deserving USAS graduate student member presenting research conducted in recirculating aquaculture systems.

Requirements: To be eligible for this award student must be a current USAS student member when an abstract is submitted. A completed application must be sent to the VP (Gulnihal Ozbay at gozbay@desu.edu) by Friday, December 15, 2023. Recipient MUST attend the Aquaculture America 2024 Student Reception in order to receive the award. Students will be judged based on their essays and the research reflected in their abstracts.

Students with innovative technology or nutrition-oriented projects are strongly urged to apply.

The winner will be awarded:

  • a check for the amount of $1,500

  • registration reimbursement ($270 value)

  • a certificate of recognition (presented at student reception)

Tyson – Student Travel Award

This award supports conference travel expenses for a deserving graduate student member presenting research conducted using sustainable rendered chicken products. The winner is awarded $1,500, conference registration reimbursement (~$270 value), and a certificate at the student reception at the conference.

Requirements To be eligible the individual must be a student at a University or College and must be a current USAS student member when the abstract is submitted.

A completed application must be sent to the VP by Friday, December 15, 2023.

Recipient MUST attend the Aquaculture America 2024 Student Reception in order to receive the award. Students with nutrition-oriented, specifically with chicken by-product projects are strongly urged to apply.

NOAA SEA GRANT STUDENT ORAL PRESENTATION AWARD

The SGC Best Student Paper Award is given to a student who presents outstanding work in marine or Great Lakes research (oral presentations only). Sea Grant will present its Best Student Paper Award to one student who will receive an award of $1,000 and a certificate.

To be eligible for this award you must be a current USAS student member when you submit an abstract.

USAS/AFS-FCS BEST STUDENT ABSTRACT AWARD

This award is designed to help support conference travel expenses for a deserving SAS/joint AFS-FCS student member presenting at the conference. A winner is awarded $800 and registration reimbursement. To be eligible for this award you must be both a current USAS and FCS student member when you submit an abstract.

BEST ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATION AWARDS

The USAS Best Presentation Award is given to recognize USAS student members for excellence in presentation. Student members of USAS giving oral and poster presentations will be eligible for the following:

  • Best Oral Presentation

    • One $1000 first-place award

    • One $800 second-place award

    • One $500 third-place award

    • One fourth-place award as an honorarium for free registration

  • Best Poster Presentation

    • One $1000 first-place award

    • One $800 second-place award

    • One $500 third-place award

    • One fourth-place award as an honorarium for free registration

Students will be judged during the conference and winners will be announced after the conference. To be eligible for this award you must be a current USAS student member when you submit an abstract. Presentations are judged on the following criteria: Scientific and research value, management and application potential, scope, oral presentation of study and results, audio-visual presentation, clarity and conciseness, accuracy of the title, stimulation of intelligent discussion, and handling of questions.
