About the World Aquaculture Society Student Association

Who We Are

The World Aquaculture Society Student Association is composed of students and senior WAS members dedicated to providing students with beneficial opportunities during conferences and throughout the year. During WAS chapter and annual meetings, the Student Activities Committee organizes special workshops and seminars, provides complimentary roommate services, hosts student socials, and provides helpful information for all students. Since its beginning, the membership in WAS has grown to more than 3,000 members in about 100 countries representing the global aquaculture community.

Our Mission

To develop mechanisms to effectively engage students in WAS activities and to increase student membership.

FREE Student Membership Information

In an effort to promote student membership, the World Aquaculture Society offers students the benefits of full membership at no cost. Members will recieve quarterly issues of the Journal of The World Aquaculture Society (electronic version), which is one of the oldest and most respected sources for technical reports in the field of aquaculture. In addition, members receive World Aquaculture Magazine, a quarterly profile of the most innovative aspects of our global aquaculture industry.

Student members can also attend and participate in several national and international conferences sponsored by WAS. These conferences provide a variety of student activities including student paper and poster competitions, competitive travel grants, student mentorship and employment programs that help defer the costs of conference travel. One of the most rewarding aspects of participation is the personal and professional contacts made possible through a WAS membership.

Becoming a student member of the chapter in your region or in the region closest to you, provides eligibility for Chapter student benefits, which are in addition to the benefits included in your WAS membership. The Student Activities Committees of the US Aquaculture Society, SE Asian Chapter and Latin American chapter work hard to provide services for students and desire their membership and most of all…their participation. If you are interested in learning more, we encourage you to visit their websites to get more involved in global and regional aquaculture!
